Browser Support

BeeBuzz Hive is the browser app that receives notifications.

Hive needs a secure browser environment with:

  • Service Worker support
  • Web Push support
  • Notification API support
  • Web Crypto X25519 support

If one of these is missing, Hive cannot pair the device for push notifications.

BeeBuzz is tested against current versions of:

  • Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers
  • Edge
  • Firefox desktop
  • Safari on macOS
  • Safari on iPhone and iPad
  • Samsung Internet

Older browsers may fail if they do not support Web Crypto X25519.

Install Hive when your browser offers it.

Installation is not only cosmetic. It gives Hive a more stable app-like runtime and avoids confusion around tabs, background state, and notification permission.

PlatformInstall requirement
iPhone and iPadRequired for Web Push
Safari on macOSRecommended
Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium browsersRecommended
Firefox desktopNot available; browser-tab mode is used

On iPhone and iPad, open Hive from the installed Home Screen icon. Web Push is not available from a normal browser tab.

Use a current browser version and check that:

  • the page is loaded over HTTPS
  • notifications are allowed
  • private browsing or strict browser settings are not blocking storage or push
  • the device has not cleared Hive’s local site data

If browser storage is cleared, the device may need to be paired again.
